Ian Edwards

Ian has a degree in Ecology and a PhD in woodland conservation and project experience in Malawi, Indonesia, Cameroon, Australia as well as the Middle East.

For the past 25 years he has specialised in informal education, interpretation and exhibition management. He is currently head of the exhibitions and events team at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Ian has been responsible for developing more than 30 major exhibitions including Living in a Rainforest (a year in the Borneo rainforest), Return of the Natives (for the Millennium Forest for Scotland), Plantweave, Eden’s Orchestra and Socotra: Land of the Dragon’s Blood and From Another kingdom: the Amazing World of Fungi. He was responsible for the public exhibition design element of the new John Hope Gateway at the RBGE. 

Ian has carried out interpretation master planning for the RBGE and botanic gardens in Bhutan and Oman. He also represents RBGE on the Scottish Government’s Biodiversity Communications group.
